Silver, Traditional Chinese Medicine

Minimizing visual stimuli, emphasizing tactile interaction and thereby enriching the wearing experience. Making it a "personal experience" for the wearer.

Xu, Xin believes in art's power to heal. Her ongoing series "Intimate Experience: Healing" uses Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to share narratives of self-healing and self-discovery because of its healing effects, and as it connects Xu and her family, particulary her mother who is a doctor practing TCM. Xu’s great interests in TCM as art mediums also lies in its diverse materiality and its connection to Chinese philosophy. Each piece in the series, crafted from silver and infused with TCM, serves as a wearable miniature sculpture emphasizing intimate connection between objects and individuals. Xu intentionally minimizes visual appearance by encasing each piece in a uniform "shell", encouraging tactile engagement and inviting viewers to patiently lean over and take a closer look to get a glimpse of her private emotions. Forming more personal connections between art and its audience through intimate interaction.
